Armed bandits launched a violent attack on Dantankari, a community in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Thursday night, killing one person, injuring at least five others, and abducting an unspecified number of residents.
Eyewitnesses told Katsina Times that the assailants stormed the town in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately to scare residents. The gunfire left one person dead and five others nursing various degrees of injuries.
“They invaded while people were sitting outside chatting. Suddenly, we just heard sporadic gunshots everywhere. They killed one person, injured five, and abducted many others,” a resident, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, said.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of abducted victims remains unclear, but locals say “many” were taken away.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack, while residents remain in fear of further raids as insecurity continues to plague rural communities in Katsina State.
